Earlier today, the Daily Sun reported that the suspect is allegedly a Sundowns player and is now facing charges of assault.
The Siya crew contacted Mamelodi Sundowns and the club has indicated that the arrested person is not a current Masandawana player.
The Sundowns communications department has stated the person in question could be a former Brazilians player.
"He is definitely not a current Mamelodi Sundowns player. All our players reported for duty for the match last night (against Sekhukhune)," the Sundowns communications department exclusively told Soccer Laduma.
"I am hearing that he could be a former Sundowns player."
The Siya crew contacted the South African Police Services for confirmation of the alleged arrest, and SAPS sent the following statement in response.
“Gauteng Police are investigating a case of assault following an arrest of a 26-year-old man yesterday afternoon. The suspect will appear in Kempton Park court today for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend at their home. The victim opened a case at Sebenza Police station,” read the statement.
The suspect cannot be named until he appears in court.
